• Stranded cotton: Also known as embroidery floss,
this is the most popular cotton thread for hand
embroidery. It comes in skeins, and each skein can
be divided into six fine threads.
• Pearl cotton: A twisted two-ply thread that has a slight
sheen.
Silk threads
• Silk thread
Spun silk: Made from broken silk cocoons and
leftovers, spun silk is similar to cotton or wool. A skein
of spun silk can be separated into strands. (Fig 7a&b)

Thimble: A thimble protects the fingertip from being
pricked by a needle while sewing. (Fig 8)
